A senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has described Iran as one of the “principal architects” of the new order in West Asia amid geopolitical transformations.
He made the remarks in X posts on Friday after US President Donald Trump and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu suffered heavy electoral setbacks partly due to their warmongering policies in the region such as the illegal war of aggression against Iran.
“The cascading crises stretching from Gaza to the Red Sea, and from Lebanon to Iraq, have demonstrated that regional security is indivisible. Either collective security is achieved, or all parties will experience the consequences of collective insecurity,” he said.
“The geopolitical tsunami sweeping across West Asia has engulfed the elections in Israel and the US. The result is that today, Iran is one of the principal architects of the regional order—a reality that can neither be erased nor replaced.”
Velayati also noted that Iran serves as a strategic bridge connecting the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Sea of Oman.
He further warned that any energy or transit corridor designed to bypass Iran will inevitably entail higher costs or face greater challenges to its long-term stability.
Recently, Armenia's parliament ratified the so-called Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which connects Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory along its entire border with Iran.
The United States is set to hold a 74 percent stake in the TRIPP Development Company, with Armenia holding the remaining 26 percent for an initial term of 49 years.
In an article published in the Ettela’at newspaper, Velayati condemned the approval of the project, which is part of the 2025 US-mediated peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"This futile undertaking by [Armenian Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan and his followers is an act that will truly bring shame upon the noble Armenian nation with a distinguished history and a longstanding tradition of moderate and prudent political conduct.”
He warned, “I told the Armenian ambassador the final word, clearly, that if Trump and his allies want to cross this Iranian red line, we will break their legs.”
Meanwhile, the senior Iranian official reiterated that with or without Russia, Iran considers itself responsible for maintaining the security of the South Caucasus.
