Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says US President Donald Trump is steering America toward an “Israel-First cliff,” as Vice President JD Vance acknowledged that the war Trump launched for Israel against Iran caused a historic defeat for Republicans in Congress.
In a post on X on Thursday, Qalibaf responded to Vance’s assessment of the election results, in which the vice president acknowledged that the war and Washington’s relationship with Israel had alienated voters who supported Trump in 2024.
“Losing gambler energy, can't walk away from the table,” Qalibaf wrote, adding, “Boss is prepping the next war phase while America teeters on an Israel-First cliff. Skip the TED talk. Why not say this to your boss?”

The Iranian speaker's post came after Vance published a lengthy assessment of the Republican Party's losses, acknowledging that the war on Iran and dissatisfaction with Washington's relationship with Israel had cost the party support among voters who backed Trump in 2024.
Vance said many former Trump supporters had switched to Democrats in Tuesday's elections. Citing a pollster's findings, he identified four main reasons for their defection: ending the war, addressing the cost-of-living crisis and inflation, putting America first, and changing the US relationship with Israel.
“Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats,” Vance wrote.
He was even more explicit about the war's political consequences, declaring, “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.”
His remarks amounted to an acknowledgment that the administration's foreign policy, including its alignment with Israel, had come at a significant domestic political cost.
Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and Senate in Tuesday's midterm elections, ending Republican control of Congress for the final two years of Trump's presidency. The results marked a major setback for the administration, with voters expressing anger over the war and its economic consequences.
Qalibaf's post also comes amid renewed threats by Trump to launch further acts of aggression against Iran.
Despite the electoral setback and Vance's acknowledgment of the war's political costs, Trump has continued to defend his decision to attack Iran.
The US and the Israeli regime launched the unprovoked aggression on February 28, assassinating a host of senior Iranian officials while also committing a massacre by striking an elementary school in Minab, killing scores of children and school staff.
The US-Israeli aggression also targeted other civilian infrastructure in Iran, including bridges, hospitals, transportation routes, and universities.
Iranian armed forces, in response, dealt a heavy blow to the aggressors by launching precision strikes against US and Israeli assets across the region, rendering some US regional military bases useless.
Tehran has warned that in case of a fresh aggression, its response will have no geographical limits.
