Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje’i says US President Donald Trump has suffered defeats both on the battlefield and in the political arena, pointing to the Republican Party’s losses in Tuesday’s congressional elections and vowing that further defeats would be inflicted on him.
In a post on social media on Wednesday, Mohseni-Eje’i wrote, “Trump was defeated both in war and in politics. We will certainly inflict more defeats on him.”
“This is only the dawn of what is to come,” he added.
In Tuesday’s midterm elections, Democrats flipped six Republican-held Senate seats and at least eight House seats, capturing majorities in both chambers and ending Republican control of Congress for the final two years of Trump’s presidency.
The results reflect deep voter dissatisfaction with the economy and Trump's handling of domestic and foreign policy, with nearly nine in ten voters considering the cost of living a major factor in their decisions.
The US-Israeli war of aggression on Iran emerged as a significant source of discontent, as it drove up gasoline prices and intensified concerns about the cost of living.
Trump’s backing of Israel has also become a source of domestic political division, amid growing public opposition to US military assistance and criticism of Washington’s foreign-policy priorities.
Referring to the National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance, Mohseni-Eje’i said that November 4 (Aban 13) has always been a day of defeat for the United States.
“May the memory of all martyred schoolchildren and university students, particularly the dear martyred students of Minab, be honored,” he said.
November 4, corresponding to Aban 13 in the Iranian calendar, commemorates several key events in Iran’s contemporary history.
They include the 1964 exile of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini; the killing of students during protests in 1978; and the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran by Iranian students on November 4, 1979, less than a year after the Islamic Revolution.
