Two Iranian fishermen who went missing after US forces attacked two fishing boats off Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf have been found, with one suffering injuries to both legs, a local fishing official said on Saturday.

Ali Eslami Ramchahi, head of Qeshm’s fishing community, said the two fishermen, a father and his son, had been located and were returning to the island.

Earlier on Saturday, US forces attacked the two Iranian fishing boats off the coast of Messen village in Qeshm County, according to Ahmad Nafisi, Hormozgan Province’s deputy governor for political, security and social affairs.

Each boat was carrying two crew members when it came under the drone attack. Two fishermen were initially rescued and brought back to Qeshm, one of whom was injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The other two were reported missing, prompting search and rescue operations.

The attack on civilian fishing vessels is the latest in a string of US military attacks targeting Iranian maritime traffic and local fishermen in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Iranian armed forces have repeatedly warned Washington against provocative acts that threaten regional maritime security and endanger the livelihoods of coastal communities.
