US military forces have attacked two Iranian fishing boats in the waters of the Persian Gulf near Qeshm Island, injuring one crew member and leaving two fishermen missing, a senior provincial official announced.
Ahmad Nafisi, the Deputy Governor for Political, Security, and Social Affairs of Hormozgan Province, confirmed that the unprovoked aggression occurred at around 11:30 a.m. local time.
The incident took place approximately 18 nautical miles off the coast of Masan village, a coastal settlement in Qeshm County.
According to the deputy governor, both fishing vessels were carrying two crew members each when they came under attack by American forces.
Following the assault, two of the fishermen were rescued and transported back to Qeshm. One of the survivors sustained injuries during the attack and was immediately transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an extensive search and rescue operation to locate the two remaining fishermen who are currently missing in the area.
"The issue is being actively pursued by the relevant authorities, and supplementary information will be released once official and detailed reports are received," the deputy governor stated.
The attack on civilian fishing vessels marks the latest in a long series of acts of aggression by the US naval forces against Iranian maritime traffic and local fishermen in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Tehran has repeatedly condemned Washington's illegal military presence in the region, warning that such provocations threaten regional maritime security and endanger the livelihoods of local coastal communities.
Iranian officials have consistently maintained that the US military has no legitimate right to patrol or interfere with civilian vessels in Iran's territorial waters and exclusive economic zones.
