Emwazi’s Syria fight in line with UK foreign policy: Analyst

An analyst says ISIL militant Mohammad Emwazi’s trip to Syria came in line with the UK’s foreign policy, which seeks the overthrow of President Assad.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Danny Makki, a Middle East expert from London, and Lawrence Korb, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress from Delaware, to discuss the growing presence of the Western citizens among Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria.

Makki blames failures of intelligence services for a sharp rise in the number of UK nationals joining the ranks of Takfiri militants, saying those who suffer harassment in the British society get radicalized and travel to Syria and Iraq, where they could “implement their extremist ideology” along with the terror groups operating there.

The analyst highlights recent revelations about the identity of Mohammed Emwazi, an ISIL killer from London who has reportedly appeared in videos showing the murder of Western hostages, saying the extremist militant had traveled to Syria to fight against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Emwazi’s trip to Syria comes in line with the British foreign policy, which has already started to backfire as the radicalized extremists are now returning home, Makki argues.

Meanwhile, Korb says the presence of foreign extremists in Syria has nothing to do with the Western intelligence services.
